Gardens That Swing Tour Announced for June

The Garden Club of Henderson is hosting GARDENS THAT SWING III, This semi-annual tour will be held in conjunction with the W.C. Handy Blues and Barbeque Festival. The tour is set for Sat. June 12 from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.

There are eleven stops on the tour this year, many within walking distance of Central Park, where the Handy Festival will kick off that morning with A TASTE OF HENDERSON barbeque sale along with a full day of entertainment.

Tickets for the tour are $15.00 and can be purchased in advance at The Third Street House Gift Shop and Matt’s News and Gifts, both in downtown Henderson. On the day of the tour tickets will be available at the steps of the Henderson County Courthouse in beautiful Central Park. Also the club will sponsor a plant and garden item sale in the same location. Tickets can also be purchased at any home on the tour.

Gardens on the tour include:

Dwayne and Sue Baker, 630 First St.-Bluestone paths lead throughout this downtown garden gem. A great example of how much can be done in a small space.

The Preston Rose Garden, 500 N. Main-Connie and Dave Walaskay have lovely renovated a rose Garden that has been a mainstay on one of Henderson’s most cherished corners.

Herb Lane, 638 N. Main-One of Henderson’s most historic homes is ready to show off its newly revamped garden and pool area.

Leo and Gail King, 935 Craig Dr.- If you love perennials this is a must see garden. There is constant bloom from March until November.

Joe and Lewellyn Banna, 2458 Jamestown Dr.-After four years of changing and rearranging this wonderful New Orleans style garden is back on the tour.

Tommy and Rita Dempewolf, 2409 Sunset Ln.-Everything you would want in a rose garden. A formal English garden with the added beauty of the Ohio River. Spectacular!

Paul and Teena Weiland, 2307 Sunset Ln.-‘Garden of the Season Winner’. A casual garden on the river which offers beautiful sunset views.

Mark and Eleanor Martin, 2324 Green River Rd.-Roses galore!

Judy Branson,7921 Constanza Ct.- A garden that proves there is nothing a determined woman can’t do.

Bill Shields, 4599 Hwy.60 E.-Mr. Shields offered a plot of land to several of his friends who share in the planting and harvesting of this unique vegetable garden.

Jerry and Audrey Benton, 8520 Tscharner Rd,- The home of two Henderson landscape professionals. Dramatic landscaped and a pool and patio area that will delight the container gardener.
