Audubon State Park and Museum

This world class facility houses the art collections of internationally known wildlife artist, John James Audubon.The museum’s Nature Center features interactive displays and a binocular-equipped observatory. The Park occupies 700 acres with secluded cottages, camping, golf, tennis, hiking, walking trails, and paddleboat rentals.

Sloughs Wildlife Management Area

A paradise for hunters, fishermen, campers, hikers, and nature enthusiasts, the Sloughs offers observation platforms along the highway during closed seasons. Divided into wetlands, woodlands, ridges, and open fields, this area boasts nearly 10,000 acres of Kentucky’s finest hunting grounds. Open mid-March though mid-October.

Atkinson Park Riverwalk

The newly expanded riverwalk offers great views of the Ohio River. Start at The Depot and continue along the riverfront to the shaded Atkinson Park. Along the route enjoy two of the city’s Audubon sculptures, playgrounds for children, as well as various places to rest. Route is approximately 3 miles, slightly hilly.

Ellis Park Race Course

Enjoy live racing excitement at the 8,500 seat grandstand from early July through Labor Day and inter-track wagering in the off season. Special events throughout the summer include Sunday Dollar Days, Wiener Dog Races and Ostrich and Camel Races. Instant racing machines available throughout year.

Brain Injury Adventure Camp

The Brain Injury Adventure Camp is a non-profit organization whose mission is to increase confidence and promote team building of individuals through outdoor recreational camps. Recreational opportunities include fishing, zip lining, climbing, horse back riding, a ropes course, yoga, cooking classes, nature exploration and more.

Agritourism Farm Tours

Henderson is home to several agritourism attractions, including a honeybee farm, you-pick berry farm, two wineries and a pumpkin patch. A bustling Farmers Market also takes place each year Spring-Fall in the Market Pavilion, located at 5672 Airline Road at the local fairgrounds.

Sandy Watkins Community Park

Park offers three fully-stocked fishing lakes, hiking paths, biking trails and great opportunities for bird watching and nature viewing. Boat launch available.

Audubon Wetlands Boardwalk

Over 600 acres of Wetlands were recently added to John James Audubon State Park. This beautiful Boardwalk Trail has the best up close view of wetland wildlife. The best time to visit is during spring and summer.

Riverfront Fountain Play Area

The popular water park fountains have two play areas; the larger area contains forty-five jets varying in height from a few feet to a towering fifteen feet, and a second play area for the “toddler” set!
