With great weather in the forecast, a trip to Audubon State Park in Henderson is a must! Each weekend the park hosts a variety of activities for all ages. Upcoming events include weekly “Fishing Fun,” Bingo, art classes for children, guided hikes and more.

Programming Opportunities August 14-17

Thursday, August 14

6:00 PM Fishing Fun- Join us for a fun evening of fishing on Recreation Lake. All you need to bring is a smile and a little bit of luck. Where? Recreation Lake boat dock. How Long? 1 ½ hours. Who? All, children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. 16 and older must have a valid Kentucky fishing license to fish.

Friday, August 15

4:00 PM BINGO – Bring out the whole family and enjoy an hour of bingo! We will play a variety of bingo games including traditional, coverall, and more. Come test your luck and possibly win a prize. Where? Campground Shelter. How Long? 1 hour. Who? Adults and supervised children are welcome.

Saturday, August 16

9:00 AM Tree I.D Hike- Learn a lot about trees and tree growth while you hike around the campground with Jackie, your Audubon naturalist. After the hike, you can choose to make I.D. tags or nature necklaces out of “tree cookies!”. Where? Campground Shelter. How Long? 45 minutes Who? All ages.

1:00 PM Hop, Slither, and Crawl – Reptiles are often feared and misunderstood animals. We’ll take a closer look at a few native live reptiles. We’ll discover what makes them different from other animals and their important role in nature. Where? Hilltop Shelter. How Long? 45 minutes. Who? All ages.

3:30 PM Wind Spinners- Eye-catching, colorful wind spinners will brighten up any outdoor area. Watch yours spin and become mesmerized by its beauty. Make one to take back to your campsite! Where? Campground Shelter. How Long? 45 minutes. Who? All ages

5:00 PM Watermelon Feast- There is not much better than cold watermelon on a hot summer day. Enjoy this snack as you enjoy the last few days of summer! Where? Campground Shelter. How Long? 1 hour. Who? All ages.

8:30 AM Morning Lake Float – Let’s take a short but beautiful float across the recreation lake. Enjoy this free paddle boat rental and take your own tour of the lake! Where? Meet at Boat Dock. How Long? 1 hour. Who? Adults and supervised children.

11:00 AM Tracks and Trails- Learn about animal tracks and make your own set to take home! Where? Campground Shelter. How Long? 45 minutes. Who? All ages

2:00 PM Giant Tissue Paper Flowers – Fill any room with vibrant colors by creating your own beautiful bouquet of flowers. These easy to make whimsical paper flowers require no watering or plant food. Where? Campground Shelter. How Long? 45 minutes. Who? Ages 7-adult.

4:30 PM Paracord Bracelets – Have you ever had a bracelet that doubles as a survival tool? Well now you can! We will teach you how to make paracord bracelets! These bracelets will help you to have rope on hand, literally! Where? Campground Shelter How Long? 45 minutes. Who? Any age-kids under 14 need an adult present.

9:00 AM Eagle Glen Trail Hike – Join one of our naturalists on a hike along the Eagle Glen Pet Trail and learn more about the wildlife and plants that call Audubon Park their home. Make sure to wear your hiking shoes. Where? Begin at the Campground Shelter. How Long? 1 to 1.5 hours. Who? All ages, but children under 8 need adult supervision.

11:00 AM Go Fly a Kite! – All ages can have lots of fun decorating, building and flying a kite.These amazing kites can even be flown without April breezes. Join the Audubon naturalists for an hour of fun and creativity. Where? Campground Shelter. How Long? 1 hour. Ages? All.

2:00 PM Smelly Jellies- Make an awesome air freshener to make your campsite even more enjoyable! We have many scents to choose from and you get to decorate the jar however you want! Where? Campground Shelter. How Long? 1 hour. Ages? All- under 13 need an adult. Cost? $5 per air freshener
