Henderson County Tourist Commission Receives Five Prestigious Awards

HENDERSON, Ky. (October 26, 2017) – The Henderson County Tourist Commission received five Traverse Awards for Excellence in Tourism Marketing from the Kentucky Travel Industry Association. The awards were presented at the Kentucky Travel Industry Association 2017 Annual Conference in Louisville, Ky. on Tuesday, Oct. 24.

Henderson County Tourist Commission representatives accepted a Gold Traverse Award for the Discover Your Nature promotional video; three Silver Traverse Awards for the Discover Your Nature community branding public relations campaign, the Discover Your Nature print advertising campaign, and the Henderson Travel Guide visitor’s brochure; and a Bronze Traverse Award for the Discover Your Nature youth t-shirt.

“We were recognized in every category that we submitted an award for, so naturally we are thrilled with the results,” said Maddy Fritz, marketing director. “I think Hendersonians would be proud to know that the Traverse Awards are a prestigious state-wide award competition for the travel industry. Our Discover Your Nature promotional video competed for gold against a dozen other destination marketing organizations, including Louisville. If there’s one thing to take away, it’s that Henderson County should be bragging about our unique destination.”

Kentucky travel and tourism organizations and attractions can submit entries in sixteen categories in the annual Traverse Awards competition. A panel of judges consists of marketing, public relations and tourism experts whose work is conducted outside Kentucky. Award criteria include concept, design, creativity and impact. More than 260 entries were submitted from throughout Kentucky for the 2017 competition.

“Bringing these awards home to Henderson is the culmination of a great deal of thought, planning, and community collaboration over the past year,” said Abby Dixon, executive director of the Henderson County Tourist Commission. “Being recognized among the best in our state solidifies that we’re telling our story in a creative, professional and positive way that attracts visitors to Henderson County—a strategy that continues to generate significant economic impact in Henderson County.”

According to KTIA President and CEO Hank Phillips, “The Kentucky travel and tourism industry includes some of the most creative and effective marketing professionals to be found in any state and in any industry. Traverse Awards are much sought after and prestigious acknowledgements of success within this highly skilled industry.”

The Kentucky Travel Industry Association represents all segments of Kentucky’s $14.5 billion tourism industry. Tourist spending in Henderson County alone has increased every year for the past five years, providing tax relief on Henderson County households. In other words, if tourism did not exist, each Henderson County household would have paid $558 more in local and state taxes in the year 2016 to replace the taxes generated by tourist spending.
