Henderson County Public Library Plans Activities to Celebrate 110th Anniversary

The Henderson County Public Library will celebrate its 110th anniversary this August with a week of fun activities, a Family Day event and more.


All events are free and open to the public. The original Main St. entrance will be open to visitors during the entire course of the 10-day celebration.

110th Anniversary Reception
Friday, August 1, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.
Enjoy refreshments and meet founding librarian Miss Susan Towels (aka Bookmobile Manager, Amber Potts) in the HCPL Rotunda. HCPL Board President Ken Christopher and HCPL Director Essy Day will provide opening remarks, along with other special guests from the community.

Tour of HCPL
Saturday, August 2 & 9, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., 12:00 Noon – 1:00 p.m., 2:00 – 3:00 p.m., & 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Learn about the history of the Library, explore the current collection, and discover new offerings on a guided tour led by knowledgeable HCPL staff!

Local History Spotlight Speakers
Monday-Thursday, August 4 – 7, 6:30 p.m.
HCPL will host guest speakers on various Henderson history topics every night of the week! Monday – Frank Boyett, Tuesday – Susie Thurman, Wednesday – Lynda Schreiner, Thursday – Tom Jake

HCPL Jeopardy
Friday, August 8, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.
Local history buffs Chuck Stinnett, Tom Jake, and Jim Bates will put their knowledge to the test in this game show hosted by HCPL Public Services Librarian Amos Ballesteros!

110th Anniversary Family Day
Sunday, August 10, 2:00 p.m.
Celebrate 110 years with a day of fun for the whole family! HCPL will create a time capsule to be opened in 2029. Families can take a capsule home to create their own! Enjoy popcorn and other refreshments! Buy One Get One Free at the Friends of the Library Book Sale! And the Tri-State’s Country Station 99.5 WKDQ will be broadcasting LIVE from the Library today!
