Catfishing on the Ohio

The Ohio River provides a wide variety of species, including crappie, black and white bass, sunfish, sauger and catfish. With the Ohio River, the Sloughs WMA, John James Audubon State Park and the Green River to choose from, you'll find many great angling opportunities in the Henderson area!

John James Audubon State Park,
3100 US Hwy 41 North. Fish for largemouth bass, bluegill and catfish in a 28-acre lake. Dock open Memorial Day through Labor Day. No gas motors permitted. Body of water: The lake at JJA State Park. Info: 270-826-2247
The Sloughs Sloughs WMA Boat Ramps, located in the Sloughs WMA. From Henderson, go 3.5 on US 60 W, turn right on KY136, go 2.8 miles, turn right on KY268, go 6.75 miles. Boat ramp will be on the right. Body of water: Sloughs WMA/Ohio River. Info: 1-800-858-1549
Spottsville Boat Ramp, near Spottsville, KY. From Henderson, head west on US 60 for about 11 miles. Turn right just before the bridge over the Green River. The ramp is 1/2 mile up the road, on your left (watch for directional signs). Body of water: Green River. Info: 1-800-858-1549

Q. Where do I get my boat launch permit for the 2nd Street or Hays Boat Ramps?

A. Boat Launch permits can be purchased at the City Building, located at 222 First Street. The office is open M-F, 8-5pm. You can also order a boat launch permit by mail by sending in a check or money order, payable to the City of Henderson, to PO Box 716, Henderson, KY 42419, for the amount of $10. Also include a self addressed, stamped envelope. Call 1-270-831-1200 for more information.
