Best Biscuits & Gravy Spots in Henderson

What’s more quintessentially Southern than a plate of flaky buttermilk biscuits and a warm bowl of gravy? This traditional Southern dish has always been celebrated in our neck of the woods, so much so that early Southerners considered the dish a delicacy only to indulge in on Sundays. In fact, it wasn’t until the first Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise opened in Utah in 1952 that we really started sharing our signature dish with the rest of the world. This week, we’re highlighting Henderson’s local eateries that serve homestyle biscuits and gravy… yummm!

 

Bangie’s Cafe – 2036 Madison Street

Word on the street is that if you like breakfast food, then this is the place to go. Bangie’s Cafe is a small, family-owned restaurant that serves both breakfast and lunch. Biscuits and gravy are, of course, on the menu, as well as other favorites like chicken and dumplings, homemade chocolate pies, and you MUST try their fried chicken. You can get your B’s & G’s every day when the doors open at 5:30 a.m., Monday through Saturday.

 

Golden Glaze – 1347 Washington Street

Looking for a spot close to downtown Henderson? Golden Glaze is located in the East End, just a few blocks from downtown. They serve biscuits and gravy staring at 5 a.m. and they keep serving them until they run out. Typically, they sell out by 7 a.m. It pays to be an early bird, but if you find yourself missing out on the gravy train, Golden Glaze has endless varieties of delicious donuts that are sure to get that morning sugar rush going! Check out this spot any day of the week!

 

Eastgate Family Restaurant – 1648 2nd Street

Out a little too late last night for the early bird special? Eastgate Family Restaurant serves biscuits and gravy all day long. That’s right– ALL DAY! This diner-style eatery opens every day except Sunday at 6 a.m. and is conveniently located to both downtown and the interstate. Get a booth with your friends or grab a swivel chair at the counter if you’re going to need a few refills on that coffee. No judgement from us!

North South Truck Stop Cafe – 14260 US-41, Robards

Not just for truckers, and breakfast here sure is hardy! We love their slogan, “not fancy, just good food,” and we can’t ignore their five-star reviews on Facebook. This family-friendly restaurant has been operating for 50 years. They offer daily specials, and both dine-in and carry-out options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Biscuits here are served with a bowl of gravy, because you can never have enough gravy. See their full menu online or stop by any day except Sunday at 5 a.m. (or 6 a.m. on Saturdays).

 

Geneva Store – 2879 KY-136

Biscuits and gravy at a good ole country store. Can’t beat that! If you are heading out for a hunting trip near the Sloughs or an outdoor adventure at Blue Moon Stables, this hole-in-the-wall eatery is on the way. They are open from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day except Sunday, so you can get lunch here, too. The Geneva Store is a perfect stop on a backroads road trip to fill your belly with Southern goodness!

 

Bryant’s Grocery – 16716 KY-416

Also known as the Hebbardsville General Store, this place is a recent feature in our Country Store Spotlight series. Christine D. from Facebook says about this store, “just had the most amazing biscuits with sausage gravy!!!!” Very hard to ignore that review! We recommend stopping here on your way to Sandy Lee Watkins park and make a day of it with the family. They open at 6 a.m. every day except Sunday.

 

Poole Mill Restaurant – 9625 US-41 ALT, Sebree

Poole Mill Restaurant is open every day of the week, serving biscuits and gravy as early as 6 a.m. Poole Mill Restaurant goers rave about the great atmosphere, great prices and great food. This place has a full spread of old fashioned country cooking. In addition to their excellent biscuits and gravy, reviewers are also gushing about their catfish & cornbread dinners, homemade pies and hamburgers. Another dish you may also want to try, if you’re brave enough… ask your server if the cook can fry up some frog legs!
