1. Lions Arts & Crafts Festival
This year the Henderson Lions Club has taken on the previously-titled GRADD Arts & Crafts Festival. The event, scheduled for October 3-4, 2015 grows this year with even more vendors than before, new food booths, a Selfie 5K and more. Did we mention? This event is held in Audubon State Park during the Fall – a perfect place to enjoy the changing of the trees and find art by local and regional vendors. 2. Poetry Night and Creative Writing Classes at the Library
It’s no surprise that the Henderson Public Library has a great selection of art reads, if you’re just looking to catch up on some knowledge of your favorite painters. But did you know, the library staff also plans tons of fun activities for patrons and visitors throughout the year? On September 30 from 6-7:30pm enjoy the Kentucky Crafts Happy Fall Ya’ll program, where you can make Fall decorations and wood slice pumpkins. Other activities include Poetry Night September 24 from 6-8pm and Creative Writing Club on Thursday September 3 and 17 from 5:30-6:45pm. All skill levels welcome. Find more details here.
3. DHP Art Hop
This popular Fall event has becom a staple in downtown Henderson. The event is scheduled for November 6, 2015 and the DHP is currently seeking applicants who wish to show their work. This unique and popular event is the perfect evening out as Tri-State artist display their wonderful original works of art for the community to view as well as purchase. 4. Farmer & Frenchman Winery Exhibit and Contest
Are you a painter? Lover of wine? Maybe both?! Try your skills at the Farmer & Frenchman Winery and Label Competition. Farmer and Frenchman and the Ohio Valley Art League will be hosting the exhibit. Artists are asked to sign-in as proof of their presence on property to be eligible to enter competition. Artist will receive an entry form at the time of sign-in. Join with artist friends to come for reference sketches or to paint, and you can bring your lunch, drinks, etc. Head over to the Ohio Valley Art League website for more details on this fun event!
6. Audubon State Park Museum
This renowned state park and museum offers more than just fishing and hiking – it’s the home to one of the largest collections of artwork by John James Audubon. The newest exhibit offers history information about the park, how the park came to be and the woman behind it all. Other fun exhibits include the Birds of America folios and original beginner drawings by John James Audubon. You’ll see proof that everyone starts somewhere!
7. Ohio Valley Paint Out and Art Sale
On October 21-22, the riverfront and downtown fills with artists painting “plein air” (outdoor painting). Artists paint all day throughout town and the event finalizes with judging and an outdoor Art Sale, which will take place on the 100 block of Main Street on October 23. 8. DHP Artisan Market
The popular Artisan Market returns for a second time in 2015 with a special Fall event on October 17 at the Henderson riverfront. Artists can register at www.dhpartisanmarket.com and visitors are invited from 10am-5pm to Audubon Mill Park to enjoy a selection of 60+ vendors, including food, live painting and more.
9. Ms. Pem’s Art For Kids
The Depot Community Room recently had a visit from the students in Ms. Pem’s art class. These classes are taught by a formal art instructor and include art lessons, as well as real-life exploration of Henderson. Art camp, sessions and a gallery are all part of the class structure. 10. Christmas Card Competition
It might seem a little early to start thinking about Christmas, but if you’re hoping to enter the OVAL Card Competition, it’s not! Starting October 22 and running until mid-January the Christmas Card Competition will take place at the OVAL Gallery @ Citi Center.
